Dual Enrollment

teacher benefits.

Department of Foreign Languages
  • Books, videos, and other materials, and conference reimbursement...things of this nature.
Department of Geography
  • One half of all carry-over monies generated to the program will be returned to the school's division that generated said monies.
  • Half-tuition scholarships to high school geography teachers who wish to enter this program in the future. Teachers requesting the scholarships must enroll either in the Geography Masters Program, or enroll, or be enrolled in the College of Education's Social Studies Masters Program in which the major focus is on graduate geography courses and teaching geography within the program of Social Studies. Other graduate courses are expected, but the major program hours must be in geography.
  • The teacher is considered as a part time faculty member in the Department of Geography/Geology and the requirements to be a part of the Dual Enrollment Program are the same as when the Department hires off campus people to teach beginning geography courses here at UNO or at Offutt Air Force Base's Education Program.
Department of History
  • Dual Enrollment funds may be used to pay for the tuition and fees incurred when a provisionally approved history teacher enrolls in a graduate history class, or Historical Research (HIST 3930). The program will pay for up to nine additional hours of content education for the provisionally approved teacher.
  • Dual Enrollment funds may be used to reimburse the school district in which the Dual Enrollment classes are taught for the purchase of previously approved classroom equipment that will benefit the instruction environment for both the teacher and students.
  • Dual Enrollment funds will be used to pay a blanket registration fee of $2500 to the Missouri Valley History Conference (MVHC) to be held in March 2007. Payment of the fee will admit any educator (history or other subject) to the MVHC who teaches in a school district in which the UNO History Department offers credit for Dual Enrollment classes.
  • To encourage Dual Enrollment teachers to attend the MVHC, Dual Enrollment funds will be used to reimburse the school district for the half-day salary paid to the substitute teacher hired so that the teacher can attend the conference for one-half day.
  • Dual Enrollment funds will be used to reimburse the school district for the full day (or two half days) salary paid to the substitute teacher so that an accepted or provisionally accepted Dual Enrollment teacher can undertake a full day of history enrichment experience.
  • Dual Enrollment funds will be used to create a kitty of $75 annually for each accepted or provisionally accepted teacher for her/his purchase of non-district provided materials needed to enhance the classroom experience of her/his students.
  • Dual Enrollment funds will be used to reimburse the school district for the bus transportation fees incurred when a classroom of Dual Enrollment students travels away from the building for one field experience annually.
  • Dual Enrollment funds will be used to pay the lecture fees charged by a speaker hired by a Dual Enrollment teacher to speak to her/his high school class. The speaker must live within fifty miles of Omaha, and the fee must be reasonable (understood at this time to be $50. Higher speaker fees must be approved by the committee).
  • Dual Enrollment funds will be used to pay an approved or provisionally approved teacher to present a lecture in an on-campus UNO History class.
  • Dual Enrollment funds will be used to pay UNO History Department faculty to speak in the high school classrooms of instructors teaching UNO's approved history classes. These payments must be made to the faculty person in the form of approved tangible goods or research costs.
  • Dual Enrollment funds will be used to honor the extended History Department faculty at a Winter Gathering which focuses on the Dual Enrollment curriculum.
  • The History Department Dual Enrollment Committee reserves the right to study requests for the reimbursement of expenses that do not outwardly conform to the above rules before making payments to either teachers or school districts. The committee suggests that teachers and/or districts seek advance approval from the Committee for projects that might not fit the above criteria.
