Department of Biology
- Master's degree in biology or closely-related field.
- Master's degree in science eduation may be considered on an individual basis.
- Successful completion of additional coursework may be required on a case-by-case basis (Tuition for such coursework may be covered by the department.)
- Applications are subject to whole-department review for approval.
Department of Computer Science
- Master's degree in Computer Science or related field, or a BS in CS or related fields with 5+ years work experience
Department of Economics
- The high school faculty member must hold at least a masters degree in economics or economics education from an approved college or have completed Principles of Microeconomics, Principles of MacroEconomics, Intermediate Microeconomics and Intermediate Macroeconomics all with a grade of at least B+. Other advanced degrees will be considered on a case by case basis.
- The high school faculty member must demonstrate a commitment to teaching excellence (i.e., conference/workshop attendance, participation in student groups/activities, teaching awards or recognition, evidence of innovative teaching, pedagogical presentations or publications, activities with a University Center for Economic Education).
- The high school faculty member must have a minimum of five years teaching experience (at any level of instruction).
- The high school faculty member must be willing to meet occasionally with the UNO faculty member/liaison
Department of English
- MA in English required for full approval

Temporary approval can be obtained if the following conditions are met:
- AP certification in English
- Extensive professional experience
- Enrollment in an accredited Master's program in English with substantial progress towards completing an M.A. in English

For teachers with a related degree (Foreign Languages and Literature, Cultural Studies, etc.):
- AP certification in English
- Extensive professional experience
- Enrollment in and satisfactory completion of courses recommended by the department (exact courses decided on a case-by-case basis)
Department of Foreign Languages
- Teacher must have a Master's degree in the target language or Education
- Demonstrated teaching success and at least 5 years of experience
- Willingness to meet with a colleague in the department on a regular basis
Department of Geography
- Master's degree in Geography or Social Studies
- Experience teaching basic level courses in the discipline
- Willingness to attend occasional meetings with a department liaison
Department of History
- Teacher has Masters degree in History, Political Science, or Economics. Dual Enrollment program will pay for up to 9 graduate credit hours of history.
- "Provisional" status granted temporarily to AP teachers who have a Master's degree but do not yet have 9 hours in the field. The expectation is that the teacher would then complete nine hours over the course of the subsequent two years. Three of the nine hours must be Historical Research (HIST 3930). Remaining 6 hours must be graduate level history credits. Tuition for the courses will be paid from History Department Dual Enrollment funds.
Department of Math
- The primary requirement is that the candidate holds a master's degree in mathematics ( MA, MS, or MAT)
- Exceptions or provisional status may be granted for candidates that do not meet the above criteria. Minimally, a provisional candidate must provide a college transcript and have completed a course in Analysis, having earned a grade of at least a B. Provisional status must be renewed each school year based upon review by the department as graduate mathematics courses are successfully completed.

Department of Physics
- Master's degree
- The teacher should have successfully (B or better) taken in college the AP course they intend to teach
- Every teacher examined on a case-by-case basis
Department of Political Science
- Master's degree
Department of Psychology
- Master's degree in Social Sciences or Education typically required - other advanced degrees considered on a case-by-case basis
- At least the equivalent of a minor in Psychology (graduate hours in Psychology can be included)
- Extensive teaching experience in the discipline
- Strongly recommended that the AP teacher attend an AP Institute
Department of Statistics
- Master's degree in Math or related field or a BS in Math or related fields with 5+ years experience teaching statistics or related work experience. Ability to use software tools for statistical analysis
